Project Overview

The MV Karnaphuli Express represents a milestone in Bangladesh's shipbuilding capability. Commissioned by BIWTC to modernize inland water transport, this vessel was designed for the Dhaka-Chandpur-Barishal route with emphasis on passenger comfort, safety, and fuel efficiency.

Construction began in July 2022 with steel cutting ceremony. The vessel features a modern catamaran-style hull for stability, fully air-conditioned passenger decks, and meets IMO safety standards for inland waterways. Delivered 3 weeks ahead of schedule in January 2024.
